Acrylic on paper Based on the song, the identities of two lovers remain ambiguous and anonymous. There is beauty in discovering layers to a person. Their aura, their light is what draws you in. Finding the right match is like chasing light in the pitch of dark. The closer you get, the better you are able to make the shape. Eventually,  you are drawn in by their warm glow. Connection sends sparks flying into the air. You are drunk on love. The world is just a little brighter. And the wine? Just a little sweeter.

Textiles Meaning peacock when translated from German, a homage to the artist who inspired this piece. Like her, I believe clothes are meant to extend your personality, not to mask it. The feathers of a peacock represent its individuality as each feathering pattern is unique. The wearer needs to show off who they truly are, as the peacock shows off the pattern that separates it from others. Peacocks were only ever discovered for their beauty when they showed it: would you rather blend in or stand out?

Afterlife

Digital (Adobe Illustrator) My interpretation of the mystery that is the afterlife. Many of us fear death because it is the end of life, many fail to acknowledge the existence of an afterlife. Funerals are actually a celebration of life as much as it is the mourning of death. Lanterns celebrate the life the blue whale has lived. In Native American culture, blue whales represent creation, life and rebirth. The skeleton of the blue whale swims through the sea of the dead, vocalizing its call for both the first and last time.

Whether it be caviar or sewage, their animalistic desires force them to devour whatever is placed in the trough. The concept of hoarding is very similar. Hoarders have an insatiable hunger that can never be satisfied. Instead of being fueled by biological processes however, hoarding is fueled by greed. Greed is an all consuming force which clearly pushes people over the line of humanity hence earning a place as one of the seven deadly sins.

The dictator had greedily wished for his touch to be able to convert anything (truly anything) into solid gold. He didn’t realize the true extent of his blessing and underwent extreme weight loss as a bonus! He cried to his beloved daughter in agony, he was horrified to find he no longer had a daughter and found himself crying to a statue. Greed blurs our judgment and as a result we fail to make informed decisions leading to irreversible consequences.
